M E Matthews Inc got its start in 1994, when Mary Matthews and her son Johnny began taking on small-scale excavation jobs around Westmoreland, NH, clearing lots, digging foundations, and running trenches with whatever equipment they could get their hands on.

Over the next three decades, that small operation grew into a full-service excavation company serving homeowners and contractors throughout Southern New Hampshire. As the business grew, so did the range of work: septic systems, residential and commercial foundations, utility trenching, grading, drainage correction, and retaining walls, along with seasonal services like snow plowing, pool filling, and forestry mowing.

Johnny now runs the business day to day, working alongside his son JP, who's carrying the family trade into its third generation. More than 30 years later, the values Mary and Johnny started with, showing up on time, doing the job right, and treating every property like it's their own, are still what guide every project we take on.
